Prince Harry Seeks Reconciliation as King Charles Remains Silent Amid Security Dispute

Prince Harry has expressed a desire to mend his relationship with his family, but says his father, King Charles III, is unwilling to speak with him due to an ongoing dispute over security arrangements. The rift stems from Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020 and relocate to the United States with his wife, Meghan.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Harry said he feels he can no longer bring his family safely to the UK after losing a legal battle to reinstate full police protection during visits. “I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said, adding that he’s uncertain how much time he has left with his father, who is undergoing cancer treatment. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” Harry added.

The interview aired shortly after a UK appeals court upheld a government decision denying him automatic police protection. While the court acknowledged Harry’s concerns, it ruled that the Home Office's decision was lawful and reasonable. Justice Geoffrey Vos noted that while Harry felt unfairly treated, the legal basis for his claim was insufficient, emphasizing that stepping back from royal duties led to his reduced security.

Harry, 40, criticized the court’s ruling, calling it a “classic establishment stitch-up,” and suggested the Royal Household had influenced the outcome. He claimed the issue was being used as a form of control and urged King Charles to allow independent experts to handle the matter.

Since stepping away from royal life, Harry and Meghan have openly criticized the monarchy, including in interviews, documentaries, and Harry’s memoir Spare. Buckingham Palace responded to the interview with a brief statement, noting that the courts had thoroughly reviewed the security issue multiple times with consistent conclusions.
